Athletic Training Education Program Receives Reaccreditation
EKU’s Athletic Training Education Program has been reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.

The program received official notification from CAATE that an award of continuing accreditation was given through 2012-13, following a comprehensive evaluation, which culminated with an on-site visit in February 2008.

The ATEP was established at EKU in 1971 and this reaccreditation continues an established tradition of excellence in athletic training education. EKU boasts the first accredited athletic training education program in Kentucky and has maintained accreditation since 1978.

The program has seen considerable growth in recent years and currently approximately 40 students are enrolled in the program.

“Reaccreditation by CAATE assures our present and future students, as well as partnering agencies and the community at large, of the excellent academic and professional preparation provided by EKU’s Athletic Training Education Program,” said Jack Rutherford, chair of the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. “Credit needs to be given to Dr. Eric Fuchs and faculty of the ATEP for their continuing excellence in instruction as well as their thorough preparation of the self-study report.”

The ATEP is one of three undergraduate programs in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. For more information about this or other programs, visit the department’s Web site at www.ess.eku.edu.
