Herald-Leader Cartoonist to Present Next Chautauqua Lecture |
The next lecture in EKU’s Chautauqua Lecture Series, “Freedom: A Force against Ignorance and Tyranny,” will feature Pulitzer Prize-winning Lexington Herald-Leader editorial cartoonist Joel Pett.

Pett will present, “Stop, You’re Killing Me: Humor as a Weapon against Oppression,” Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in O’Donnell Hall in the University’s Student Services Building.
Before joining the Herald-Leader staff in 1984, Pett worked as a freelance writer. His cartoons have appeared in several publications, including USA Today, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek and Boston Globe. Pett is on the Board of Cartoonists Rights Network International and former president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.
He has received the Robert F. Kennedy Award for outstanding journalistic coverage of the disadvantaged, the Global Media Award for cartoons on population issues and the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning.
Pett’s works are available in four paperback collections: “Just Don’t Inhale!!” “Read My Clips: More Editorial Cartoons,” “Thinking Inside the Box: Even More Editorial Cartoons” and “Pett Peeves: Political Cartoons.”
