With its unique bioinformatics degree option for undergraduates, EKU is poised at the leading edge of a revolution in health care – one that will embrace DNA analysis to personalize medicine, improve the quality of care and bring down costs.

Alltech founder and President Dr. Pearse Lyons and former Eastern Interim President Eugene Hughes will address 1,218 degree candidates at EKU’s annual Fall Commencement on Saturday, Dec. 17.

AT&T has been announced as the Presenting Sponsor for the International Town and Gown Association’s 7th annual University-City Relations Conference, to be held at Eastern June 4-8, 2012.

The baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in nursing at EKU have received reaffirmation of accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

In November, EKU was recognized as a Gold Level Recipient of the American Heart Association’s Start! Fit-Friendly Companies Recognition Program.

The EKU Center for the Arts Community Operations Board has elected officers and announced appointments for the 2011-12 term.


Student members of the EKU Maroon Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) delivered donations collected for the local Kentucky River Foothills Development Council Inc. this semester to KRFDC’s HEARTH program (Kentucky’s Housing and Emergency Assistance Reaching the Homeless), which helps prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless and helps those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized. Items such as nonperishable food, cleaning items and personal care items were donated by EKU faculty, staff and students, and Maroon SHRM presented the items, along with a monetary donation, to KRFDC Public Information and Projects Director Karen Bailey, center. Twelve EKU Middle Grades Education majors participated in the national conference of the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) Nov. 10-12 in Louisville.

Ginni Fair, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction and director of Thinking and Communicating Across the Curriculum, is featured in this ongoing series designed to allow EKU leaders and others in prominent positions to discuss their roles as well as campus issues. Fair, who joined the EKU faculty in 2001 as a middle school language arts teacher at Model Laboratory School, also taught an occasional graduate course for the Department of Curriculum and Instruction before moving full time to that department in Fall 2007. A “proud graduate” of EKU, she holds a bachelor's degree in middle grades education (area emphases in English/Language Arts and Social Studies) and a master’s degree with an emphasis in middle grades education from Eastern. In 2010, she earned a Doctorate of Education in curriculum and supervision from the University of Kentucky.
