WEKU News Director Charles Compton was recently elected as an at-large representative to the Board of Directors of Public Radio News Directors Inc.

Compton, who has served as news director at WEKU since 2005, was named last year to fill the unexpired term of the Board’s mid-sized newsroom representative. His term as an at-large representative is for two years.
The recipient of numerous national awards for news reporting, Compton chaired the Kentucky Public Radio Editorial Board from 2004 to 2008, and helped launch the Kentucky Public Radio partnership and the Kentucky Public Radio Statehouse Bureau.
Compton began his broadcasting career in 1982, working in public radio stations in Ohio, Alaska, Washington, Idaho and Kentucky.
