Maj. Bill Adams, Class of '40, the first graduate of the EKU ROTC program, was among those honored during Veterans Weekend events at EKU Nov. 12. Two names were added to the Veterans Memorial during a memorial and dedication service that also included the addition of benches to the memorial, located on campus in the Memorial Plaza next to the Powell Building.

Members of EKU's International Students Association presented song and dance, authentic cuisine and a fashion show at the 20th annual International Banquet on Nov. 12.

EKU has named Dr. E.J. Keeley as Interim Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management.

Keeley, who will serve in the position through the end of the current fiscal year, had been serving as Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Research at EKU. He brings to his new position more than 15 years of directly related experience in enrollment management analysis and in developing programs designed to enhance student success and improve retention and graduation performance. He has worked closely with admissions and enrollment management deans, directors and staff at Northern Illinois University, Loyola University-Chicago, the DeVry University system and the Argosy University system.


The Kentucky Artisan Heritage Trails, a business development program offered through the Center for Economic Development, Entrepreneurship and Technology (CEDET) at EKU, has earned national recognition.


Members of EKU’s student chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association, Lambda Alpha Epsilon (LAE), won 13 awards at a recent regional conference in Tallahassee, Fla.

USRider Equestrian Motor Plan has teamed up with EKU to conduct large-animal rescue training for the second consecutive year. The training was initially offered at EKU through two training sessions last March.


Members of EKU’s men’s basketball team checked out the local wildlife during the Colonels’ recent trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands to compete in the annual Paradise Jam. In the tournament, Eastern lost to the University of Wisconsin 95-89 in double overtime, defeated Norfolk State 67-60 and lost to the University of Georgia 76-68. The Colonels host the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.

A series of events on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at EKU will honor renowned local author Charles Bracelen Flood, whose latest book chronicles “Grant and Sherman: The Friendship That Won the Civil War.”

EKU Libraries and the EKU Bookstore will host a presentation by Flood at 6:30 p.m., followed by a book signing and reception at 7:30 p.m. Both events will take place in the Grand Reading Room in Crabbe Library.

Earlier in the day, the Bookstore will host a “Meet-and-Greet” with the author from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the store.


Two Eastern Kentucky University students were recently recognized by the Financial Management Association as Collegiate Fellows for 2004-05.


Amy L. Ray, of Erlanger, a senior interior design major at EKU, received honorable mention in the International Interior Design Association’s Louisville/Lexington City Center 2005 Rachel Meyer Student Design Competition. The annual competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in two- to five-year programs of interior, architecture or industrial design in Kentucky. The competition centered on the design of the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana headquarters building in Louisville. Entries came from five colleges and universities. Ray completed her project as part of Linda Roberts’ Interior Design Studio at EKU and was recognized at the IIDA’s trade show “Workspace” in Louisville on Nov. 3.

Amanda Slusher, director of EKU’s Annual Fund, is featured in this ongoing series designed to allow EKU leaders to discuss their roles as well as campus issues. The main focus of the Annual Fund is raising funds for the Alumni Fund for Scholarships and other University initiatives through the Phonathon, direct mail, Kentucky Challenge for young alumni, 50th Year Reunion Class gift and the faculty/staff campaign. Slusher, who joined the EKU staff in 2004, holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Louisville and a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs administration from Indiana University.
