EKU sophomore Prageeth Hettiarachchi, a computer information systems major from Colombo, Sri-Lanka, performed with his fiancee, Debora Zagluc from Argentina, during the recent International Banquet. Members of EKU's International Students Association presented song and dance, authentic cuisine and a fashion show during the program.


Tickets are now on sale for the 36th annual Madrigal Feastes. The event will be held Dec. 8-9 in the Keen Johnson Ballroom. Seating begins at 6:30 each night with dinner at 7.

Sandy Hunter, Ph. D., associate professor of emergency medical care for EKU’s Department of Loss Prevention and Safety, has been appointed to the Committee on Accreditation of Education for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) Board of Directors. He will also continue as a site reviewer.

Karen Camarata, associate professor in the Department of Health Promotion & Administration, was elected to serve as Vice-President Elect of the Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance. KAHPERD is a non-profit association representing professionals in health and safety education, physical education and sport, recreation and leisure, and dance.


Model Laboratory has won the fifth annual “Battle of the Belts” contest, a competition among all Madison County high schools to promote the use of seat belts while driving/riding organized by EKU senior nursing students. The first-place prize will be presented on Nov. 30 at an 11 a.m. program at Model Laboratory.

Edward J. Keeley, Ph.D., executive director of Institutional Effectiveness & Research and interim associate vice president for Enrollment Management, was elected vice president and president-elect of the Kentucky Association for Institutional Research (KAIR) at the association's annual meeting on Nov. 17. He will serve as vice president in 2007 and president in 2008.

EKU student Jessica Rucker, from Williamsburg, was presented the third place Cultural Diversity Writing Contest Award at the Kentucky Association for Developmental Education Conference held Nov. 10-11.

The EKU NOVA program is awarding approximately $40,000 in supplemental grant aid to eligible NOVA participants. These funds are made available by the U.S. Department of Education to help offset loan debt. The recipients are first- and second-year NOVA learners who have demonstrated a high level of participation in the program by successfully completing the NOVA first-year experience.


Salome Nnoromele, professor of English and interim director of African/African-American Studies, is featured in this ongoing series designed to allow EKU leaders to discuss their roles as well as campus issues. Nnoromele, who joined the EKU faculty 13 years ago, holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Utah, and master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Kentucky.
