The Eastern Kentucky University Dance Theatre will present its Fall Concert Wednesday, Nov. 18, through Saturday, Nov. 21, in O’Donnell Hall, the Student Services Building auditorium.
Tickets for the concert, scheduled nightly at 8 p.m. with an additional 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, are $5 for students and $10 for others. Reservations can be made by calling the Alumni House at 859-622-1264 or 622-6618 Monday through Friday.
Although the group focuses on modern dance, the concert will include a variety of dances.
Guest Artist Sarah Downs has created “a crazy piece about cell phones that everyone will be able to relate to,” according to Dance Theatre Director Marianne McAdam. Downs, who completed a master’s degree in dance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, is an EKU Dance Theatre alumna.
Also featured will be “Culture Shock” by McAdam, which grew from a presentation on how people’s dance speaks to the nature of their culture. It combines Japanese Folk Dance, Classical Indian, Middle Eastern and African and abstracts the phrases using Modern dance.
A Polka and Schottische by the ballroom group “will make the audience feel it has been transported to an Oktoberfest!” McAdam said. Beth Slone has created a dance about “moving on to the next world,” using Sarah McLaughlin’s song “Angel.” Kindra Fulks’ colorful piece will speak to the inner child.
Also included are pieces about fire, vampires, the consequences of actions, life lessons, questions about religion, identity struggles and relationships.
Ending the concert will be a “Stomp”-like clogging piece choreographed by Eric Highfield and Jessica Hart that involves a few EKU Percussion Ensemble members.
