PRESENTATION: Voice IDs, Forensic Phonetics and John Lennon

Dr. Phil Harrison, freelance writer and musician, will present "Voice IDs, Forensic Phonetics and John Lennon," drawing from his experience as a linguist and as a professional musician. It serves in part as an introduction to the science of forensic phonetics. But whereas the practical application of this science is more often found in the Courtroom, the subject matter here is a set of previously-unheard demo recordings by the late John Lennon that were sent to Harrison for authentication by a London newspaper. It should be interesting to both language and music students, as well as to anyone studying journalism or the law. It will be illustrated with some of the original sound recordings. Harrison holds a Ph.D. the University College of London.
